Welcome to EAA 2015
The University of Strathclyde is delighted to host the 38th EAA Conference which will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow. Strathclyde was established in 1796 as 'the place of useful learning' and this remains our mission today: to combine academic excellence with social and economic relevance. As 'the place of useful learning' the University is committed to the advancement of society through the pursuit of excellence in research, education and knowledge exchange, and through creative engagement with partner organizations at local, national and international levels. In the 21st century, we are Scotland's third largest university with an international reputation and outlook, with students and staff from over 100 countries. At the heart of the University is its world leading research. In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, 50% of our research output was rated at a World Leading or Internationally Excellent standard. In terms of Research Power calculations, Strathclyde ranks 4th in Scotland and 31st in the UK. Our Business School has attained international leadership. Currently ranked number one in Scotland and 7th in the UK by the UK’s Research Assessment Exercise 2008, with over 65% of output judged to be world leading or internationally excellent. The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) is Scotland's premier national venue for public events, concerts and conferences. The SECC has facilities which are second to none. Glasgow is one of the most vibrant cities in the world. It has magnificent Victorian architecture, elegant streets and squares, beautiful parks and gardens and relaxing canal and riverside walks. Glasgow has many excellent stylish restaurants, chic stores, and a thriving cultural scene. But Glasgow is also about its people, their friendliness, humour and sense of fun. A short distance from the city there is the most amazing scenery in the world, -- breath-taking seascapes, stunning lochs, and fascinating castles. Scotland is a golfer’s paradise. While Glasgow is steeped in history, perhaps it is best described by the Lonely Planet guide as follows-- I am certain that EAA 2015 will be an outstanding academic conference which will provide the opportunities for networking, high-level discussion and academic development while at the same time presenting the opportunity to discover Glasgow and perhaps Scotland.
